On the Northumberland Coast Path, walking is enough. The beaches are golden and miles wide. Dolphins play in the water. There are many, many castles. And, when you stop walking, there are some excellent places to get a beer.
I slipped up to my desk just before 9am, relatively unnoticed, with all the dignity I could muster and clutching a sausage sandwich. Adventure is the perfect antidote to the desk.
We had driven 1000 miles to get here and we had 1000 miles to drive back. I made an impulsive decision to seize an opportunity and see where I ended up – and it was a fabulous idea.
